Our Story
Hi 👋
I'm Michalis, pictured here with my family and our 2-year-old on one of our bike rides. Nice to meet you, and thanks for taking the time to read Koobiba's story.
I started building Koobiba because we needed a way for him to play his favourite music whenever he wanted, without handing him a screen.
As parents, we don't want to give him a smartphone just to listen to something. We want to delay unnecessary screen time for as long as we can, while giving him the freedom to explore the songs, stories and all sorts of sounds he loves, in his own time.
Our very first need was simple: we wanted an easy way to use the library of MP3s and recordings we already owned.
When we looked at what was on the market, a few things didn't sit right with us:
- We'd have to buy extra cards or figurines just to make the player useful
- We'd need to create online accounts to even get started
- To use our own audio, we'd often have to upload files through someone else's cloud
- We'd have to carry all those bits around wherever we go
- And every time something got lost, we'd need to buy replacements and set everything up again
That felt like too much work for something that should be simple.
Koobiba is my answer to that: a simple, screen-free audio player that lets kids press a button and listen to all their favourite audio, while parents stay in control of what's on it.
Today, Koobiba is already being tested with real toddlers, and the first small batch of units is being prepared. If this sounds interesting, I'd love to have you follow along and help shape the next steps for Koobiba.
And about the name "Koobiba"? It's how our kid pronounces the Greek word for "watermelon" – it sounds nothing like it, but we love it 🍉.
